Second Gate: Chapter Twenty-Five

Posted in Updates on August 16, 2010 by chemiclord

So, uh… oops.  Timothy accidentally Rumil’s respect.  Way to break it, hero.

Find out how Timothy managed to step in it, just what the hell was so damned scary to the Erani sects that they chopped out almost a half of a prophet’s words, how Dewin can manage to become even more sanctimoniously obnoxious, and more in Chapter Twenty-Five.

Man, that sounded like a really bad TVtropes chop up made by a Hollywood preview writer.  God, I hope that’s not my future.

Hollywood writers get boned hard.

Second Gate: Chapter Twenty-Four

Posted in Updates on August 9, 2010 by chemiclord

Hey!  It’s the titular object at long last!

Dun dun DUNH!

Read more about it, as well as something about Rumil (but what exactly,  I wonder), as well as a different side to Timothy that he rarely ever shows in Chapter Twenty-Four.  Could the amore be… reciprocated?  They can do that in fiction?

Wait, could I be doing it all wrong?  Damn it, I need to start adding all sorts of throwaway characters to get in the middle of this budding relationship!  This sort of development between two characters can’t be allowed to happen.  Poorly injected and contrived drama is the way these sort of things have to go!

I got it!  Justin discovers he is actually Julianne’s brother!  He can’t possibly remain married to… wait no… that actually hasn’t stopped Erani noble families in the past.

What, did you think Timothy was joking that arranged marriages have been closer than third cousins?

I guess you’re all just gonna have to put up with a realistic relationship blooming between two people.  Not that there won’t be issues… but it’s actually going to, ya know, make sense and feel like something completely unlike Days of our Lives.

Somewhere, a Twilight fan is crying, and doesn’t know why.  I mean, come on… why would a Twilight fan be reading this piece of drivel?

I’m sorry; I think I hath failed you all again.

Second Gate: Chapter Twenty-Three

Posted in Updates on August 2, 2010 by chemiclord

I do try to keep my chapters roughly the same length.  I find it helps the reader’s flow and be able to allot a certain amount of time each day without being surprised.

Every so often, I fail rather miserably, like with Chapter Twenty-Three, which is nearly twice as long as the previous chapter.

But hey, you get more Dewin in the deal.  And I’m told he’s a pretty nifty character.  And you learn a bit more about him and how he has this somewhat irritating tendency to be in the right place at the right time.  And you get a shadowy character that doesn’t seem to be at all pleasant to be around.  And he seems awfully smug about it too.

This, I am led to believe, is good.

Second Gate: Chapter Twenty-Two

Posted in Updates on July 26, 2010 by chemiclord

We learn that Rumil might just have a bit of a crush in Chapter Twenty-Two.

We also learn she’s not a particularly good liar, not that it would help much now that she seems to be surrounded by psionics on an unidentified planet somewhere beyond the Galactic Rim.

What’s more sad; that she’s attached herself to Timothy because he’s the most genuinely caring and genuinely decent male figure she’s met in her life… or that she’s right?

Perhaps I should give my characters nicer back stories.  It’s almost cruel where they tend to come from.

Second Gate: Chapter Twenty-One

Chapter Twenty-One is here!

Hey, it’s that Dewin guy again.  Funny how he keeps turning up at just the right moment.

Bah, it’s probably just coincidence.

Meanwhile, you may notice that the Solarians and the Kiros suddenly agree that Rumil pretty much has to die.  This is something I’ve noticed about different factions or denominations of religions.  The only thing they hate more than each other is someone that might pose a threat to their bloated construct of money and power.

Nope, still not much free time, and still a busy-busy bee; with work (how I make actual money), and along with a special super secret project I can’t tell anyone about (it’s a secret), and with other various projects that aren’t quite so secret (like putting together story boards for future books in this series), I’m pretty much booked from now until forever.

See ya next Monday.

Second Gate: Chapter Twenty

Chapter Twenty.

Sorry that I don’t have much of wit to say.  Kinda busy juggling a few different things that are eating up my time and processing space.

See ya all next Monday!

Second Gate: Chapter Nineteen

Posted in Updates on July 5, 2010 by chemiclord

So, yeah… funny story involving a neighbor’s quite possibly illegal in the state of Michigan fireworks, and the satellite I use for internet access.

Apparently the two don’t mix very well.

Anyway, while belated, here is Chapter Nineteen.

We finally see the ancestral homeworld of the Erani, in Kiros.  Justin proves to be a slightly more amiable host than Timothy (I know, I’m surprised by this too)… but as you can imagine, there’s a little friction when a Solarian Knight drops in unannounced.

Chapter Eighteen.

Yeah, in case you didn’t realize something was a little bit unusual about Timothy (aside from having like… zero social skills and that he is a man capable of nigh miraculous feats using nothing but his mind), you should kinda figure it out by the time you’re done here.

Even among the oddities that are Erani Knights, something is rather… strange about that fellow.

Bah, it probably has nothing to do with the story.

Second Gate: Chapter Seventeen

On schedule; Chapter Seventeen.

Yeah, can you believe we’re about a third of the way through at this point?

I’m just going to pretend the response isn’t; “We’re only a third of the way through?”

See you all next Monday!

As it says on the package, Chapter Sixteen.

Yes, astonishingly enough, Timothy does something unplanned and perhaps ill-advised, even though he tries to play it off like a minor inconvenience.

Occasionally he does things like that.
